Waste Management Specialist

We are hiring a Waste Management Specialist who will be responsible for ensuring the transporting and disposal of customer materials, both hazardous and non-hazardous, are compliant with federal and state waste regulations. This person must be able to execute waste characterizations and consult on packaging, storage and disposition, while also adhering to customer business objectives and waste management goals.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be able to identify industrial waste and recycle streams, identify disposal and recycle options, and provide all documentation for transportation and disposal / recycle of the waste stream. 
  • Have an understanding of environmental regulations and the ability to search out specific regulations applying to the disposal, transportation and handling of an industrial waste or recycle material.
  • Must have a working knowledge of RCRA, DOT, and waste management pertaining to the packaging and management of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Interpret laboratory analytical data and characterize material for disposal in accordance with applicable regulations and disposal/treatment facilities waste acceptance criteria.
  • Responsible for developing waste reduction and landfill avoidance initiatives. 
  • Excellent communication skills to present your programs to clients and prospects in a clear and effective manner.
  • You will be a part of the business development and sales presentation team and integrally involved with the development and implementation of presentations to customers and prospects.  
  • Accountable for meeting contract obligations with NEI customers.
  • Develop a database of recycle and disposal providers available for NEI and its customers to utilize.
  • With the support of NEI’s financial services manager, negotiate with NEI suppliers to establish and maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Ability to develop and manage spreadsheets using excel and other common Microsoft programs, such as word, outlook, along with any programs to which you might be introduced at a customer site which require a higher level of computer literacy.
  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment when emergency conditions develop but always adhering to proper regulations while never agreeing to compromise the integrity of yourself or NEI.
  • Must be willing to work safely adhering to all safety programs implemented by NEI, and its customers and prospects.
  • Ability to work in or around industrial facilities, contaminated solids and liquids, landfills, waste processing facilities, or any other location that waste streams are generated or processed.
  • Must be a team player being able to work with all National Environmental team members.
  • Continuous learning of new methods and products related to waste and recycling services industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Waste Management, Environmental Science or related science, engineering, or technical field preferred.
  • 2-5 years relevant experience

Environmental Engineer

We are hiring an Environmental Engineer who will be responsible for helping plan, execute and optimize industrial wastewater system design, waste remediation engineering and overall process design and engineering. This person must be able to support the development of environmental compliance activities that are in line with customer business objectives and waste management or reduction goals.  This position will be based out of NEI’s office in Greenfield, Indiana.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing waste reduction and landfill avoidance initiatives.
  • Design projects leading to environmental protection, such as water reclamation, conversion of waste to energy, water and waste treatment applications, storm water treatment, industrial cleaning, fluid recycling, and basic air pollution control systems.  
  • Have an understanding of environmental regulations and the ability to search out specific regulations applying to the disposal, transportation and handling of an industrial waste or recycle material.
  • Excellent communication skills to present your programs to clients and prospects in a clear and effective manner.

Transportation and Field Specialist

We are hiring a Transportation & Field Specialist to round out our Operations Team. This position will be field-based, primarily driving our box truck and van trailer, and occasionally vacuum tankers. You will run multiple loads during the daytime, traveling to and from customer sites and disposal facilities. This position would be responsible for identifying types of waste, collecting samples, labeling, manifesting, and the safe transportation of primarily non-bulk waste and recycle materials in accordance with all EPA, IDEM, DOT regulatory guidelines. 

To be successful in this role, you must be attentive to details and able to interact well with NEI’s customers.

This position will be based out of NEI’s office in Greenfield, Indiana. A standard work day is 6am-2:30pm, with occasional overtime and sporadic weekend work.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate a Box Truck and 53’ Van Trailer and occasionally a vacuum tanker
  • Maintain CDL (A) driving classification including Haz Mat and Tanker endorsements
  • Maintain hazmat, tanker, HAZWOPER, and Confined Space endorsements.
  • Responsible for efficiently managing all waste streams loaded onto the transportation vehicle
  • Transport waste and recycle materials to disposal and recycle facilities
  • Provide onsite support services at customer facilities
  • Manage documents associated with EPA, IDEM and DOT regulations
  • Work as part of an industrial contractor team and be capable of operating a pressure washer as part of a confined space team
  • Adhere to all DOT rules and other transportation regulations at all times.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures at all times which includes all proper PPE designated by NEI and its customers.
  • Check equipment prior to start-up and assess start-up performance.
  • Monitor the maintenance and performance of NEI equipment.
  • Maintains service vehicle and tools for cleanliness and proper operation
  • Assess basic mechanical problems and take actions to resolve promptly.
  • Respond to unplanned events and solve customer technical problems as they are identified, requested, or arise, all while maintaining positive customer relations.
  • Engages with customer in a courteous and professional manner. Ensures prompt and efficient attention to customer needs.
  • Continuously look for opportunities that benefit both NEI and the customer.
  • Escalates unresolved issues to Supervisor.
  • Report to Supervisor when no field service work is available.
  • Collaborate with rest of NEI team to develop and adhere to standard operating procedures and make suggestions for modifications in a commitment to continuous improvement programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4+ Year of Experience Required
  • Have and maintain a valid class A CDL preferably with HAZMAT endorsement and current HAZWOPER training.
  • Must know basic DOT regulations and preferred general knowledge about industrial waste
  • Able to operate a pallet jack and/or fork lift moving drums, skids of material and totes.
  • Able to move, with dolly or other mechanical assistance, drums weighing upwards of 750 lbs. or more.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs or more.
  • Familiar with basic Microsoft office functions (Word, Excel) in order to complete time sheets and expense reports
  • Ability to detect and differentiate colors     
  • Able to clearly communicate both orally and in writing
  • Must be good at solving problems with other people
  • Able to remain calm and even-tempered in the face of challenges, demands, and deadlines
  • Must be a self-starter with good follow-through, capable of working independently with little supervision
